Cow Hide

Create a new image, any size, but something about 300 x 300 pixels is good to get an idea of the effect. Add some noise, to do this select the Filter menu followed by Noise, and Add Noise. Select a noise level of 999, with Gaussian and Monochromatic selected.

Now we need to smooth all that noise out, select Filter and then Blur. Select Gaussian Blur, a value of about 15 should be suitable, but try experiment to get different results. Don't worry the preview pane won't show much nor will the image.

Select the Image menu, followed by Adjust and then Threshold. Play with the values to get a nice looking cow hide. Something about the 128-ish range should start getting results.

You might want to take the sharp edge of the pattern by repeating the blur used in step 2, except use a value of about 1. This will put a very slight blur on the outline.
