Seamless Tiled Backgrounds

If want to create a nice background that can be tiled without showing the tiled lines this is useful. It helps to have a background that is of similar texture and colour. We're going to use this:

Select Filter -> Other and select offset. Select pixels to wrap around and move the image by about 100 pixels or so. This is so we can see where the joins are.

Now select the rubber stamp tool and a suitably sized brush to clone out the areas that don't look right.

Now hold the Alt key and then click on a similar area to that where the overlapping lines are to help brush out the parts that don't match nicely. Its often good to zoom in to work on it at a larger scale and if you get it looking ok at that size it will look fine at its normal size. Also use the Opacity on the options tab of the stamp tool to help fade in the copied bits.

It pays to refine the work a little by first looking at it when it is tiled, a quick and easy way to do this is save it as a BMP file and use it for your Windows desktop. If the pattern doesn't look right go back and make some adjustments.
